Every year, in May, the town councillors elect one of their fellow councillors to become Town Mayor for the year. The Town Mayor is usually the Deputy Town Mayor from the previous year.

Congleton Town Council is proud to introduce Cllr Suzy Firkin as the Mayor of Congleton for the 2026–2027 term. Cllr Firkin was officially elected during the Annual Council Meeting held on Thursday 21 May 2026 at Congleton Town Hall. She succeeds Cllr Robert Brittain and will serve as Mayor until May 2026.

Meet the Mayor

Formerly the Deputy Town Mayor, Cllr Suzy Firkin brings a wealth of experience and community dedication to her new role. In her inaugural address, Cllr Firkin said:

“It is a true honour to be appointed Mayor of Congleton, and I am incredibly grateful for the support and trust placed in me. I look forward to working with our community, supporting local initiatives, and representing Congleton with pride throughout the year ahead. I’m also delighted to be fundraising for Friends for Leisure, Lower Moss Wood and No Tier Snooker —three fantastic organisations that make a real difference to people’s lives, champion inclusion, and protect local wildlife.”

Congleton Town Council proudly welcomed its newly appointed mayor and deputy mayor during a successful and well-attended Mayor Making ceremony held on Thursday, 21 May 2026 at Congleton Town Hall.

The ceremony marked an important occasion in the civic calendar as Cllr Suzy Firkin was officially installed as the new Mayor of Congleton.

Local groups and organisations are invited to participate in the Mayor’s Civic Service and Parade on Sunday, 13 September 2026. The parade will leave Antrobus Street Car Park at 1.30 pm ahead of a 2 pm service at the Town Hall.

Civic Team

In her first official address as Mayor, Cllr Firkin spoke about her enthusiasm for serving the community over the coming year and introduced her cadet, Faith Wrench, a member of 230 (Congleton) Squadron Air Cadets.

A Mayor’s Cadet supports the local Town Mayor at public, civic events and ceremonies. The role involves attending occasions like the Mayor Making Ceremony, Remembrance Sunday parades, and other cultural or community events. Find out more about the role by viewing the page below.

The newly appointed civic team will now begin their term, focusing on community engagement, local events, and supporting charitable and civic initiatives across the town.

It provides a place for schools, disabled visitors, environmental groups and others to come and learn about conservation and the environment. The wildlife hospital takes in orphaned, sick or injured wild animals or birds for treatment and care.
