Walking and cycling are some of the best ways to experience everything Congleton has to offer. Whether you’re travelling to work, visiting the town centre, taking the children to school, or exploring our beautiful countryside, choosing to walk or cycle can improve your health, save money, reduce traffic congestion and help protect the environment.
Congleton is fortunate to be surrounded by stunning countryside, green spaces and scenic routes that can be enjoyed throughout the year. By leaving the car at home whenever possible, residents and visitors can discover hidden gems, enjoy fresh air and exercise, and play their part in creating a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future for our town.
The South East Cheshire Cycle Action Group (SECCAG) has produced this map to encourage more people to cycle for everyday purposes in and around the five towns of Alsager, Congleton, Holmes Chapel, Middlewich and Sandbach. The maps are intended for cyclists and potential cyclists to indicate possible routes that might be preferable to using main roads, and to indicate potential hazards and discontinuities in the routes. They should not be taken as indicating the presence of an official route, of cycle-friendly infrastructure or a safe route.
South East Cheshire Cycle Network have got together with Congleton LAP and Congleton Partnership to create a cycling route map of Congleton and the local area. Just click on the link to the right and enjoy some of the best cycling in Cheshire along the popular Biddulph Valley Way route.
The following Town Map was produced in 2013 and does not include the Congleton Link Road but still provides a useful reference. Maps produced by Active Maps Ltd. www.activemaps.co.uk.

Congleton Town Council has created a series of eight circular countryside walks to help residents and visitors discover the town’s beautiful green spaces and surrounding countryside. Published as the Discover Congleton From Your Door map and leaflet, the routes range from 1.5 to 9 miles, including two step-free options, and all start close to housing areas and public transport links.
The walks showcase many of Congleton’s natural and historic features, including the River Dane, Macclesfield Canal, Astbury Mere, Biddulph Valley Way, Town Wood and Rhead’s Meadows. Clear directions, way markers and information about local landmarks make the routes easy to follow and enjoyable for walkers of all abilities.
The project was initiated by former Town Mayor Cllr Kay Wesley and developed by local resident Heather Watson. Their aim was to encourage more people to explore the countryside on their doorstep, improve their physical and mental wellbeing, and discover routes and places they may never have visited before.
The Discover Congleton From Your Door leaflet is available from Congleton Information Centre and can also be downloaded online.
