Congleton Town Council is committed to challenging crime and any behaviour which might make people feel unsafe in our town. The council has been working with the Congleton Police and Cheshire East Council ASB team on a variety of issues and holds regular Community Safety Working Group meetings to consider and seek solutions to issues in Congleton
In 2022 Congleton Town Council signed up the Community Safety Charter, which is delivered through the national ‘Our Watch’ Neighbourhood Watch campaign. Via the Charter, there is access to lots of free information and advice, and we are keen that as many local organisations, charities, businesses, groups and individuals with an interest in crime prevention and making Congleton an even better place to live, work or visit to sign up! The Charter extends the scope of crime prevention activities towards a goal of eliminating harassment, antisocial behaviour, and intimidation experienced by anyone who lives, works, studies, or visits anywhere in England and Wales.
The clear message is that we can all “say no to harassment, antisocial behaviour, and intimidation” when we see it, take some action to report or help if it’s safe to do so. We don’t have to accept it as something we have to put up with, we can take action.
We have provided more information on the topics of Anti-Social Behaviour, Harassment, Bystander Intervention and Hate Crime, what they are, what the impacts are and what you can do on the link below.
Neighbourhood Watch knows that when we take positive actions to reduce risks, support others, and challenge behaviour, we can make a difference. This module is about #BETHECHANGE. We know that YOU can make a difference in our community, a difference at home, and in public spaces. Whether you make changes in the way that you think, in your actions, or indeed in how you speak to people. The smallest action may seem small, but it can have a big impact on someone’s life.
Being the Change means that you will try to challenge behaviour, make changes to your own way of thinking, and you won’t just stand by or move on by when someone needs support. If we all do one thing differently, then we are going in the right direction, making Congleton a better place to live. Together.
We ask that you do 3 actions with this module:
