Congleton Town Council represents the people of Congleton, providing local services, running community events, and supporting residents through the Town Hall and Information Centre.
Congleton Town Council was established in 1980 to represent the residents of Congleton. It consists of 22 elected councillors across five wards, with elections held every four years — the next is scheduled for May 2027.
Since 2008, the Council has owned and managed the Grade II listed Congleton Town Hall — a striking venue licensed for weddings, and popular for social and business events.
The Town Council also runs the Congleton Information Centre, your first point of contact for all things Congleton. Located in the Town Hall, the centre offers:
The Town Council is consulted on planning applications affecting the town and gives its views to Cheshire East Council, which is responsible for approving or refusing applications. The Town Council also makes representations to Cheshire East Borough Council on concerns about Waste, Rights of Way and Licensing.
The Town Council organises and supports many key town centre events, including the Food & Drink Festival, Health & Wellbeing Fayre, Easter Treats, Summer Play Days, Green Fayre, Halloween, and the Christmas Lights Switch-On. It also leads on civic occasions such as Remembrance, Mayor Making, the Mayor’s Ball, and the Mayor’s Parade.
The Town Council acts as the accountable body for the Congleton Partnership, which brings together voluntary groups and community organisations to support key events and initiatives across the town.
Since January 2014, the Council has delivered Streetscape Services in Congleton and five surrounding parishes. A dedicated team of 13 staff maintains:
In summer, the Council runs the popular Congleton Paddling Pool on Park Street (open May to September) and helps lead the town’s award-winning Congleton in Bloom efforts. Sustainability and environmental care are at the heart of both these programmes.
