To mark the leap year on Saturday 29th
February, a number of Congleton traders along with Congleton Town Council
joined together to put on a Congleton Bonus Day. 25 shops and businesses in
Congleton were part of the scheme, where every customer that spent £5 or more
in their shop on that day, completed a raffle ticket and would be entered into
a prize draw. After all the tickets were collected, first, second and third
place prizes were drawn at random from more than 300 tickets.

The three winners; first place Linda Bellis, second place
Mrs J Butler and 3rd place Jo Hancock received Shop Congleton
vouchers to spend in the participating shops. Each shop put £5 into the pot to
make up a grand total of £120, split £60 for first place, £40 for second place
and £20 for third place.

The shops that participated in the 2020 February Bonus
Day were: Bare Health, Bear Grills, Boots Opticians, Browns Jewellers, Carl
Christopher, Congleton Kitchen, Congleton Oatcakes, Damand, Davenports, David
James Menswear, Grace Brown Interiors, Hollins & Hollinshead Jewellers,
House to Home, Isobel’s Fashion House, Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe, No.1 West
Street, RJ& J Moore Greengrocers, Rogers Barbers, Ruby’s Fund Charity Shop,
Specsavers, Sweet Pea, The Little Shop, Vision Express, Wendy’s Pet Salon and
Wild & Wild Café.

Jackie MacArthur, Town Marketing and Events Manager at
Congleton Town Council said “The aim of the Bonus Day was to get more people
shopping locally in Congleton and with more than 300 completed tickets in the
draw, I think the Bonus Day certainly helped to do this! It was great that the
shops were keen to get involved and we are looking to do a similar scheme again
in the Town Centre later in the year.”
