Young people across Congleton are being invited to apply for the prestigious role of Mayor’s Cadet for the 2026/27 civic year.

The Mayor’s Cadet supports the Town Mayor at civic engagements throughout the year, attends important community events, and acts as an ambassador for Congleton’s young people. The role offers an exciting opportunity for a young person to play an active part in civic life and gain valuable experience that will support future education, training and career aspirations.

Congleton Town Council is encouraging youth organisations, schools, sports clubs, performing arts groups and community groups to share the opportunity widely and support young people in putting themselves forward.

Applicants must:

  • Be a resident of the Congleton parish
  • Be aged 14–18 during their term of appointment
  • Be enthusiastic, community-minded and willing to represent young people across the town

Applications must be completed by the young person themselves and submitted via the online form by Friday 10 April 2026.

The current Mayor’s Cadet, Haru Pepper, has described the experience as incredibly rewarding: “Being Mayor’s Cadet has been absolutely fantastic. I’ve had the chance to attend so many different events, meet inspiring people and represent young people in Congleton. It has really built my confidence and given me experiences I’ll never forget. I would strongly encourage anyone who is thinking about applying to go for it — it’s such a special opportunity.”

The successful applicant will be formally appointed at the Mayor Making Ceremony at Congleton Town Hall on Thursday 21 May and will serve for the full civic year.

Congleton Town Council aims to be as inclusive as possible and welcomes applications from young people of all races, religions, genders, sexual orientations and gender identities, as well as individuals with a disability or neurodiversity.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated young person to gain unique experience, build confidence, and receive civic recognition for their contribution to the community.
