Councillor Sally Ann Holland becomes new Mayor of Congleton

Cllr Sally Ann Holland was elected as Mayor of Congleton for
2019-2020 at the Town Hall on Thursday 23^rd May and will now serve
as Mayor until May 2020. Cllr Holland was previously Mayor of Congleton in
2012-13 and has been a town councillor for 16 years.

The Mayor chose her husband, Dave Holland to be her Consort,
14 year old Eloise Williams from Congleton West Ranger Unit to be her Cadet and
Rev Andrew Lindley who preaches at Rude Lane Methodist Chapel and Wellspring
Church and was the founder of Congleton Street Pastors to be her Chaplain for
the year. Councillor Denis Murphy was elected as Deputy Mayor for the year. He
appointed Joan Myatt as his consort.

The newly appointed Mayor said: “I am looking forward to serving
Congleton as Mayor over the next 12 months and will endeavour to do so to the
best of my ability and with integrity, honesty and enthusiasm. I have a great
team around me with my Consort, Cadet and Chaplain and I look forward to
representing the town”

During the year, the Mayor will be raising funds for various
Congleton-based charities, but will be focusing predominately on Visyon and the
League of Friends for Congleton and Macclesfield Hospital. Both charities were
present at Mayor Making. Visyon offers support for young people who experience
all forms of mental health based issues and anxiety. The League of Friends
offer support to Congleton and Macclesfield hospitals.

Fund-raising will start almost immediately with a Mayor Bear
Raffle. There are also plans for a Congleton Hill Challenge, Tea Dance, Bingo,
Mayors Ball amongst others.

The Mayor gave thanks and presented the retiring Mayor Suzie Akers Smith, with the past Mayor’s medallion. Thanks were also given to Peter Akers Smith for being the Mayor’s Consort and to Cadet Clara Jackson from the ATC. Cllr Akers Smith will be distributing funds raised in her year of office soon.

The Mayor’s Civic Parade and Service will take place on Sunday 2^nd June, meeting at the back of the Town Hall at 2.30pm and parading to Trinity Church on Wagg Street for a service starting at 3pm. The Parade will be led by Rode Hall Silver Band. All welcome.
