Congleton Town Council is encouraging residents to take part in a newly launched public consultation on the future funding of local policing, which could help safeguard Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) roles across Cheshire.
The consultation, launched by Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Dan Price follows proposals driven by financial pressures that could see a significant reduction in PCSO numbers. The Commissioner has indicated that, with public support for a small increase in the policing precept, all 87 PCSO roles across Cheshire could be retained.
PCSOs play a vital role in Congleton, providing a visible presence in neighbourhoods, engaging with residents and young people, and helping to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour before it develops.
The consultation is now live and will run for two weeks only, closing at noon on Friday 23 January 2026. The survey is quick and easy to complete.
Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Brittain said: “Our PCSOs are an essential part of policing in Congleton. They know our community, they build relationships over time, and they help prevent problems before they escalate. This consultation gives residents a real opportunity to show their support for local policing. I would strongly encourage everyone to complete the survey, and make their views known before the deadline - 30 seconds is all it takes!”
Residents can respond to the consultation online via the Police and Crime Commissioner’s website at: Help save PCSOs. Have your say on the budget
Congleton Town Council is keen to ensure that local voices are heard and that the importance of PCSOs to the community is fully recognised.
