Congleton is gearing up for a fantastic celebration of all things green, as the sixth annual Green Fayre takes over the town centre on Saturday 27 September from 10am–3pm. Organised by Congleton Town Council and Congleton Partnership, the event will transform the High Street into a vibrant showcase of sustainability, eco-friendly living, and community spirit.
With over 30 stalls promoting environmentally friendly businesses, products, and services, visitors can explore everything from sustainable shopping to greener lifestyle choices. Inside the Town Hall, attractions include a bumper Congleton Repair Café, where skilled volunteers will be on hand to give broken items a new lease of life, and a book swap for those looking to refresh their reading list without cost to the planet.
One of the key highlights will be The Big Clothes Movement. Visitors are encouraged to bring a bag or two, and for just £2 per bag, they can fill it with pre-loved clothes, helping to cut waste while refreshing their wardrobes. The morning session will focus on clothes for children aged up to 5, with the afternoon dedicated to ages 5+ and women’s fashion – including a wide array of Halloween and fancy-dress outfits.
Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Brittain said: “The Green Fayre is more than just an event – it’s a chance for our community to come together, learn, and take small steps that make a big difference to our environment. Whether it’s repairing a household item, reusing clothes, or supporting local eco-friendly businesses, everyone can do their bit for a greener future. I encourage residents and visitors alike to join us for what promises to be a fantastic day in Congleton.”
Families won’t want to miss the eco-friendly face painting in the Town Hall, while the popular Makers Market in the pedestrian area will be brimming with artisan products, giving visitors the chance to shop sustainably and support local makers. Adding to the fun, the Hedgemen will wander through the crowds, delighting visitors young and old.
To ensure the event runs smoothly, High Street and Moody Street will be closed from 7am–6pm (no access from Market Street). Market Street will remain open for access to Morrisons and the Fairground Car Park, and bus and taxi ranks will operate as usual, exiting via Mountbatten Way.
