Lawton Street, Congleton CW12 1RS

Treo 63 DM was a remarkable military dog whose actions in Afghanistan saved countless lives. Honoured with the prestigious Dickin Medal – the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross – Treo’s bravery and service are now permanently commemorated in Congleton.

A statue of Treo stands proudly near the entrance to the Community Garden on Lawton Street, serving as a lasting tribute to his courage. Treo spent the final five years of his life in Congleton after retiring from the army in 2010, alongside his handler, Dave Heyhoe, who also lives in the town.

The statue was made possible through the generous contributions of time, effort, and donations from the local community. Special thanks go to Steve Ashton, the project’s founder and lead fundraiser, Dave Heyhoe for his continued dedication, and Amy Goodman, the talented sculptor who brought Treo’s likeness to life.
