The Cloud

Events Attractions The Cloud

The Cloud, often referred to as Bosley Cloud, is a well-known gritstone rise close to Congleton, sitting on the boundary between Cheshire and Staffordshire. It is valued for its wide-reaching views and is cared for by the National Trust. The hill is a popular destination for walkers, forming part of the Gritstone Trail, and features a trig pillar and viewing indicator at the top. A network of footpaths leads to the summit from nearby locations such as Timbersbrook.

General Information

Enjoy sweeping views across the Cheshire Plain on this short but rewarding walk. Starting from Timbersbrook Car Park, take on the 136-step climb for a quick workout and stunning vistas. Perfect for a post-work summer picnic or a crisp winter stroll, with flat rocks at the summit for a scenic rest.

From the car park, follow the path to Tunstall Lane. You can either tackle the steep steps or take a gentler slope via the Gritstone Trail—both routes meet further up. As you ascend, the woodland opens into moorland with bilberries, bracken, and expansive southern views.

Watch for mountain bikes in shared areas and continue to the stile, where two main paths lead to the summit. The left path circles the hill with scenic views, while the direct route takes you through woodland and heather to the trig point and toposcope.

Explore multiple paths at the top and choose your preferred route back down.
